The Shake It Out campaign is the brainchild of the award-winning Voice Your Rights Project at the University of Nottingham.
It aims to address and combat homophobia, as well as promote LGBT+ inclusion in sports – with Nottingham recently crowned England’s ‘Home for Sport’, there is really no better place to start!
And where else would we begin this campaign other than getting the University of Nottingham Men’s Hockey Team to strip off for a nude wall calendar?
President of the Men’s Hockey Team, Jack Tranter, on why he was compelled to get the Hockey Team involved with the Shake It Out campaign:
“Hockey is one of the most popular sports in the University of Nottingham. Our links with the local community and reputation in the BUCS league put us in a really strong position to lead the charge in encouraging other clubs to get involved and address issues of discrimination in sport. I want us to be part of a sporting community where peoples’ passion and skill, rather than their sexuality or gender, is at the forefront of discussions.”
With University sports’ clubs producing some of the most influential leaders of tomorrow, promoting campaigns, which tackle LGBT+ discrimination at this level, helps ensure our future society is in safe hands.
